Golf ? Hitting Down To Go Up

2418949445 f4e75bf9be m Golf ? Hitting Down To Go Up photo by jlastras.

Golf is a game that often can often become such a mental fog that one finds they cant get their game off of a particular plateau. This is often because the game calls for contradictory motions, particularly when striking the ball. The concept of hitting down to get more loft on a ball is a perfect example. Lets take a closer look.

Despite what you may hear, the primary notions of physics are fairly straight forward. We know them without thinking about them. Let go of a golf ball and it will drop from your hand to the ground per the rules of gravity. It all seems so simple, but golf is really hard because playing well requires us to subvert these basic notions.

The concept of hitting down on a ball to get loft is one that just makes no sense. If you look at the club, the head is angled back. For all the world, this would seem to suggest that driving the head under and then up through the ball would create the most loft. I probably dont have to tell you that this is not true.

To get loft, you must drive down on the ball. The reason has to do with the club design. The angled face of the club you are using is designed to strike the ball in such a way as to artificially create loft. This only happens if you hit down on it. By hitting down on it, I am referring to the portion of your swing when you should hit the ball. You should still be driving the club in a downward motion. The angle of the club head will take care of moving the ball in an upward motion, but the power of the shot will come from the downward motion.

So, why doesnt the ball just get driven into the ground? Well, it sort of does. It will actually compress a bit because it is trapped between the club head and the ground. The only place for it to go is back up the club head. As it does this, it will release energy that is added to the shot.

Hitting down on the ball to generate loft is mentally uncomfortable. Try practicing it. Position yourself forward of the ball in such a manner that you cant help but hit down on the ball. Exaggerate your position if you must. Once you feel the impact and see the result, youll understand that the technique works. From there, it is just a matter of endless practice to nail down the perfect technique!

The Center of the Golf Swing

Where is the center of the golf swing? It is somewhere between the bottom of your spine and your navel. It is not your head, although the fallacy about controlling head movement persists. Don’t think about your head. It serves only two purposes during the swing:

Callaway Golf and Brain Power Help Me Lower My Score

Here’s How I Discover the Scoring Opportunity in every Awkward Shot

For some golfers an awkward shot can throw-off their whole game. You know the ones I’m talking about. A shot that throws you so off balance you take it into the next shot and the shot after that until you’ve made a mess of your scorecard.

Here is a great way to discover the scoring opportunity hidden in every one of those awkward shots and how you can gain the edge-up on your opponents who are not aware of how to adjust.

Remember golf is not all mechanics, golf is also cerebral. It’s a thought process – a frame of mind. For me it’s all of those things plus my attitude. I have a Callaway golf attitude. I know I’m swinging what the best in the game swing – so I must be pretty good, too. Right?

So with my attitude, when I’m faced with an awkward shot, I think it through. I put on my Callaway golf game face. I see myself swinging true. I picture myself keeping my balance and my head from moving, then…

I imagine the line my Callaway golf clubmust travel. I set up my shot by considering where the club head is and where it needs to be for the greatest distance and accuracy, keeping in mind that the ball is going to have contact with the club head for several inches through my swing. After a few practice swings I judge what relationship my feet should have with the line and I find a comfortable stance.

Now, I relax. Zen.

When you try this, first be aware of any problems you may encounter keeping your balance. Shift if necessary until you find a comfortable position where there is no tension in your swing. Keep from swaying as you’re about to the hit the ball, but stay loose. Free your muscles and focus your mind on swinging your Callaway golf club smoothly. If you are fidgety when you address the ball, you are not going to be able to focus.

Keep your feet still and make sure you can see the ball from the beginning of your swing through to the end. A difficult shot needs relaxed focus.

This will be your edge if you can find it.

Keep your eye on the ball and your swing will be free from fault assuring the ball will be hit correctly. This will help you hit the ball cleanly and solidly and with confidence. That’s how you discover the scoring opportunity in every awkward shot and a positive turning point in your score.

Generally, a relaxed golfer is a focused golfer. And a focused golfer usually scores the lowest. So don’t let an awkward shot beat you. Relax and think it through. See your goal and outscore your opponents.

That’s what I did today, despite the snow, with brain power and my attitude from Callaway golf

Factors That Affect Your Golf Swing

In the game of golf, no two people ever have the same golf swing. Each person has their own individual body with its own strengths, flexiblity and range of motion. The way one person swings a golf club may not work for another person, even if they are near in body types. Every golfer has to find the playing style that fits them to help them produce the results that they want. Players that know what is going to happen to the ball when they hit it, and what factors affect that moment of impact can effectively use their body to create the consistent powerful golf swing that they desire.

Four former Ryder Cup players, Jose Maria Canizares, Antonio Garrido, Manuel Pinero and Jose Rivero, will head a strong Spanish contingent when the European Senior Tour visits Mallorca for the first Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open next month.

Garrido, along with Seve Ballesteros, was the first continental golfer to be selected for The Ryder Cup in 1979, two years after the pair won the World Cup for Spain in the Philippines.

Garrido, now 65, has won two Senior Tour titles – the Scottish Seniors Open in 1994 and the Lawrence Batley Seniors in 1997 – as well as five European Tour titles, including the Spanish Open in 1972 and the Madrid Open in his home town in 1977.

Pinero played in The Ryder Cup in 1981 and was part of the winning European Team at The Belfry in 1985, where he teamed up with Ballesteros to win two foursomes and one fourball match before maintaining his 100 percent singles record by defeating Lanny Wadkins 3 and 2. His golf clubs was awesome and great to help in win titles for him.

The 56 year old has yet to win a Senior Tour title – his best finish being runner up in the Digicel Jamaica Classic in 2003 – but he is a nine time winner on The European Tour and lifted the World Cup twice, in 1976 and 1982.

Compatriot Rivero was part of the winning European Ryder Cup Teams in 1985 and 1987 and has three Senior Tour titles to his name, winning both the DGM Barbados Open and the Wales Senior Open in 2006 en route to finishing third in the Order of Merit, and the Scottish Seniors Open in 2007.

The 53 year old, who has also won four European Tour titles, finished 19th on the 2008 Order of Merit, with his best placing coming in the season ending OKI Castellon Open Espana – Senior Tour Championship where he tied for fourth behind Sam Torrance.

Canizares, who won the World Cup for Spain in 1984 partnering Rivero, also heads to Mallorca searching for his first Senior Tour title after winning six times on The European Tour.

The quartet will be joined in Mallorca from May 8 to 10 by former Ryder Cup captains Ian Woosnam, Mark James and Sam Torrance at the 300,000 Euro event at Son Gual Golf, in Palma, which has a first prize of 45,000 Euro.
Woosnam, who was a member of eight consecutive Ryder Cup teams from 1983 to 1997, works closely with Forgan of St Andrews to ensure that the company remains at the cutting edge of golf club technology. His expertise also ensures that Forgan’s online custom fit golf clubs service gives golfers of all standards clubs built to their exact specifications.

Woosnam also endorses the Stowamatic Titanium GT golf trolley which he helped to design.
The Stowamatic Titanium GT is manufactured by Sports HQ, based at Alvechurch near Birmingham, and can be ordered direct from the manufacturer for just Pound 199.99, the lowest possible factory-direct price and a saving of 300 on the RRP.

How To Improve Golf Driving Distance?

515359812 3daf40838c m How To Improve Golf Driving Distance? photo by Kivus.

Golf is a game of fundamentals, but it also should be enjoyable. If we worry too much about the fundamentals, we take the enjoyment out of the game. Also I have found that too much thinking leads to more trouble.

Most golfers will tell you that putting is the most important part of your golf game and I agree. But, you need to get onto the green before you can putt. The golf clubthat starts the process of getting to the green is the driver and this is where most of the trouble starts. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

When we take our stance at the golf tee, we need to consider some factors to improve golf driving distance such as wind conditions and the width of the fairway being a couple. If the wind is behind you, a higher drive is best. To hit a higher drive, tee the ball a little higher and stand a little forward of the ball.

If you have a wind in your face, you should tee the ball lower and take a stance back from the center of the ball – this will result in a lower drive. This is a tactic known as leg position golf swing. Here’s another tip if you really want to take strokes off your handicap and become a good golfer, you might find it well worth your while to invest in some leg position golf swing lessons. For a narrow fairway that has trouble on both sides, you might choose to hit an iron take a less powerful swing.

Some times a hook or slice isn’t bad. You see the better golfers hit them when the need arises. But, usually you want a good straight drive to improve driving distance. Some times it is even better to hit your drive with an iron if the fairway is narrow and has a lot of trouble on either side. Some other things that should become automatic is leg position golf swing. This is positioning your stance according to wind conditions.

Besides using it to think with your head plays very little part in your golf game, except to keep it still. The natural tendency is to look up as soon as you hit the ball to see where it is going. That curiosity turns many a golf round from pride to disaster. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s virtually impossible not to have some head movement. You’ll see it even in the best of golfers, but they control it. If you watch a good golfer closely, you might see some movement on the back swing but they make sure that their head is behind the ball at the point of impact.

Keeping the head still should become automatic over time and you shouldn’t need to consciously think about it. As soon as you start thinking too much the trouble starts. Once you hit the ball your head will follow through naturally with the movement of your shoulders.

Once more, golf is a fun game to be enjoyed with good companions. Don’t take it too seriously. These golf swing tips are meant to simply improve your golf game a little and not take the fun out of it.
