Choosing the Right Golf Club

It’s not difficult to begin noticing differences between golf clubs, once you have acquired the skills to get the ball in the air. According to the rules of the golf, a golfer is permitted to transport 14 clubs. Which of the 14 golf clubs the golfer decides to carry is fully up to the golfer? The best golfers generally transport the same golf clubs each week, but they also have a few golf clubs they alter depending on the golf course and its characteristics. A particular golf course may lead a golfer to add an extra wedge, an extra long iron such as a 1 or 2 iron of even an extra wood such as a 5 or7 wood. High-caliber golfers know it pays off to spend a little time to find the mix of golf clubs that will afford them to play the shots that the golf course requires. When mastering golf club selection, a new golfers challenge is to understand the different ways certain golf clubs affect the golf ball.

A new golfer may find it to be a bit too much to carry 14 golf clubs. It’s not a bad idea to begin with a short set of two woods, four or five irons and a putter. It is still important, however, to find out as soon as possible what the assorted golf clubs do to the golf ball so that you can understand the basic reasoning behind transporting 14 golf clubs.

As for the general rule, the lower the number of the golf club, the lower the trajectory as well as the longer the golf ball will travel in air. This concept not only applies to irons, but to wood golf clubs as well. Wedges normally give the golf ball the highest trajectory and shortest flight as well as the most on the spin. This causes the golf ball to stop abruptly as it lands. As you move to lower-numbered iron of golf clubs, expect the ball flight to be longer and lower as the ball will spin much less. A 5 or 7 wood golf club can easily repiece the lowest – numbered iron clubs since the wood golf clubs are generally easier to use.

As you move to lower-numbered wood golf clubs down to the driver, the ball will normally travel farther. The driver is used mostly off the tee box. However, good golfers can use it from the fairway if the lie is good and they desire to hit the golf ball as far as possible. Upon progress, it is significant to learn how far you hit every club in your golf bag.

LPGA golfer Carin Koch says that women shouldn’t transport iron golf clubs lower than 4 or 5 and can actually complete their sets of golf clubs with a 7,9 9 or 11 wood golf club. The actual club selection is achieved during the preparation phase for the shot. While preparing for the shot, you can stand behind the golf ball and gather as much information as desired. To determine the lie of the golf ball, check the wind. Are you playing in wet or arid conditions? How is the landing area? You need to seriously consider the circumstances when choosing the proper golf club.

Many manufacturers make golf clubs for juniors. Nike, Ping, Taylor Made and Accu-Length. If a child wants to learn the game of golf, it is best to start with the proper set of golf clubs. The proper golf clubs will make it easier to develop a stance, posture and swing to enjoy the game. Practicing with the clubs on a driving range with some type of instruction is going to be the best way to become accustom to the golf clubs before actually playing a round of nine holes. It is wise to start with nine holes verse eighteen holes until, the child starts to show improvement in the game.

Most people looking for junior golf clubs do not look at Accu-Length, but they should. These golf clubs are made to grow as the child grows. They are expandable clubs. By using spacers, the clubs can be lengthened as the child grows. This is a bargain, since children grow quite fast sometimes. Having a set of clubs that grows with the child will save you as the parent some money. You will have the proper fit, weight and flex in the clubs to fit any child who is learning the game.

The Ping set of clubs will give you the trademark ping and comes in two different junior sizes for different age groups. They have the Moxie for nine to eleven year olds and the Pal for children six to eight years of age. The thing with these clubs is they are not adjustable and you will need to replace the clubs as the child grows. Ping is a great golf club and as potential for helping the young golfer develops the swing to get the ball, a good distance. You will spend some money every few years if you decide on Ping golf clubs.

Nike has developed the junior golf clubs in three different sizes. They have the Eagle, Birdie Blue and the Par Red series with the Red series. The clubs go according to the child’s height. Again, you will spend more on clubs as they grow. Depending on the age and height of the child who is starting out, you could end up trading up three times before the child stops growing. Nike is a reputable manufacturer of golf clubs even so. It will be a matter of preference and desire as what type of manufacturer you prefer for golf clubs.

The Essentials to Know when Buying Golf Clubs

If you are fairly new to the game, or just new to actually going out and purchasing a club on your own, read through our quick golf club buying guide. It is sure to set you straight on what you need to know about buying the perfect golf club for your needs.

What kind of golf clubs do you have to choose from?
First, let’s take a look at the types of golf clubs that make up a set. Typically, a golfer carries fourteen or fewer clubs in his or her bag. The four basic types of these golf clubs are Woods, Irons, Wedges, and Putters.

Another popular type of golf club nowadays is the Hybrid club. The Hybrid club is a cross between the Iron and the Wood, and is made for people who have difficulty using these other types of clubs. But before you get confused, let’s break these categories down a bit and take a closer look at them.

Woods:
Woods are usually used to hit long golf shots. Standard woods that are carried in a golf bag are 1, 3, and 5 Woods. Your 1 Wood is typically your driver. As the number of your wood increases (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) you lose the amount of distance it can go, but you gain a higher trajectory. Recent golf club technology has made higher lofted woods for shorter distances.

Irons:
Iron clubs are mostly used for shots that are expected to go an average distance – typically from 125 to 200 yards. The lower the number of iron, the less degree on the face of the iron – resulting in the longer amount of distance the ball can go. On the other hand, the higher the number of iron, the higher the degree on the face of the iron – resulting in the higher the loft a ball has.

The most popular irons used are 3 Irons though 9 Irons, however, many companies also manufacture 1 Irons as well as 10 Irons.

Wedges:
Wedges are used for semi-short golfshots. They are also used for chipping, and sand shots. There are several types of Wedges, including sand wedges, pitching wedges, and lob wedges.

Putters:
If you have ever watched a golfer up on the green, trying to hit a short shot into the hole, then he or she was most likely using a putter. A putter is a golf club that has a low loft. This enables the ball to roll father. A putter is typically shorter than all of your other golf clubs.

Should you buy new or used clubs?
Now that you understand a little bit more about your golf clubs, you must decide whether you want to purchase a new or used set. If you are fairly inexperienced, you may lean towards buying used clubs, instead of spending a great deal of money on a new purchase. However, when buying used clubs you should be wary about defects such as cracked shafts or worn grips. After all, these things will certainly not help you learn the game the right way. And, they may accumulate into worse money problems in the end.

Our advice to anyone starting off new to the game of golf, is to invest in a new set that works right with your height and build. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive set – but simply something that you can learn well on.

Should you purchase a complete set or put one together on your own?
One thing you should realize when putting together a golf set by yourself is that it will be a more expensive route to take then simply buying a set that is already put together. Putting together your own set can be quite confusing if you are merely a beginner. Our advice for starters is to get a complete starter set and go from there.

If you have leftover money, you may be better off to spend it on some golf lessons. Leave the picking and choosing to more advanced players who know exactly what they want.

In closing, have fun with your new golf clubs. Use them to learn how to excel in this challenging and entertaining game!

Buying a Junior Golf Club

515359804 7967d24e8c m Buying a Junior Golf Club photo by Kivus.

30 years ago there weren’t too many sets of real junior golf clubs to be found, and there weren’t that many people buying components and making their own clubs either. I found a person who did make clubs and had some old ones cut down for my two kids. My son must have been barely 3 years old, and his 9 iron didn’t show much of the metal shaft: it was all grip! The head was extremely heavy, and he couldn’t really swing the club, he sort of picked it up and hacked down at the ball like the club was an axe! The kids both had fun, however, and they always lit up when I suggested going to the driving range to hit balls. These days parents have many more options, and they can find decent junior golf clubs at surprisingly reasonable prices.

Doing it Right

Earl Woods always made sure that Tiger had clubs that fit him when he was growing up. With clubs that are too long or too heavy and with grips too large, the junior golfer is going to have to make swing adjustments that will probably cause bad habits which will be difficult to correct later on

Club Length

This is the major consideration, and suffice it to say that your junior golfer should not be playing with clubs that are too long. Sure, you want your kids to “grow into them”, but if they have to choke up more than 2 inches they will have to modify their swings. Your kids will probably only get 2 to 3 years maximum out of a set of junior golf clubs, so you should set that expectation if you want your kids to play and enjoy golf. Unless you purchase a Calloway junior set or a set from another major brand, new clubs can be acquired at very reasonable prices. More on that shortly.

Club and Club Head Weight

Don’t do to your junior golfer what I did to my son. Get him or her clubs that are the correct weight. Junior sets normally have light and flexible graphite shafts and proper club head size and weight.

Grips

Youngsters need grips on their junior golf cubs that fit their hands. Fortunately thin grips for kids are readily available these days, and most decent junior sets use those.

Prices- New Clubs

A quick internet search showed an number of interesting options. AMF had a set of junior golf clubs for ages 3-5 for about $80. The set had a wood, a hybrid club, an iron, and a putter. The clubs had light weight flexible graphite shafts, and the golf bag and a few other accessories were included. They also had sets aimed at 5-8 year olds and 9-12 years of age for a bit more money. In contrast, I saw a junior Calloway set for 9-13 year olds selling for $240.

Why Not Ebay?

A quick search on Ebay for “junior golf clubs” resulted in seeing several hundred auctions, most of those for brand new clubs. If you find a reliable seller you can get some excellent deals. I saw a brand new set for the 5-9 age group that had a top bid of only $15, and there were only 15 minutes left in the auction! So to get that very first set to determine if the child will be interested in playing golf, Ebay might be a great solution.

Conclusion

My grandson is 11/2 years of age right now, and I’m already thinking about taking him to the driving range in about a year. He’ll be luckier than his uncle (my son) was at his age, and he’ll have junior golf clubs that fit him reasonably well and which he can actually swing. I can’t wait to see him hit a few shots that get up into the air a bit for the first time. The sooner he can accomplish that and experience some success, the more he’ll enjoy playing golf not just as a youngster but throughout his life.

While there is some debate over ‘who’ really invented the game of Golf, the game as it exists today does date back to the 15th century. However it is said that in the 12th century Scotsman who were herding sheep used crooked sticks to bat stones with in the same fashion into rabbit holes. There are even theories that have this style dating back to the 1st Century BC. Golf was played on any flat land but with rough grass and no greens and makeshift holes cut into the landscape. The first known formal organization for the game was in 1744 and called the Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers.

Quality golf club-TaylorMade Tour Preferred Iron Set as beast choice of golf irons

What I really liked about the Tour Preferred irons, is how solid they felt at impact. I noticedimmediately, how the club would respond, in terms of sound and feel at impact, just like hitting a forged iron. The next thing that really made this club stand apart, is how easily the club would just glide through the turf. During my tests, I used these clubs on both the fairways and moderate rough, and had no problems with the club’s sole digging into the ground during my swing. As mentioned before, this was due to the softening of the the trailing and leading edge of the sole of the club. The results were purer ball striking and you’ll really appreciate this in the moderate rough.
